NC DOT | North Carolina Department of Transportation" .... By working closely with young people, mentors can help to motivate their mentees to aspire and dream for the future. The NCDOT Division of Aviation oversees many programs that offer possibilities for the involvement of mentors and their mentees for education and career development. Moreover, the Aviation Division can be a resource to help your mentoring initiative build bridges to other agencies and businesses in the county and state."

Mr. Dave Thomas, Air Service Program Manager

"We believe that the faith community is close to the needs of the people, offers a large volunteer force, has facilities to host impact programs and offers an appropriate frame of reference for students to make good choices. Our goal is to partner a faith-based organization (churches, temples,YMCAs, YWCAs, etc) with every school in WCPSS to provide tutoring, mentorship and other resources focused on the specific needs of each individual school. We believe that the Adopt-A-School Training that your organization provides is valuable to help each faith-based organization focus on the needs of the school and students...."

Office of Justice Programs

"....I want to commend the communities of Raleigh and Durham for coming  together to develop the kinds of innovative programs that this funding will help support.  Programs like the Adopt-A-School Initiative in Raleigh, coordinated by Another Step Forward.... In this program, churches and their congregations adopt schools to provide services such as tutoring and mentoring, while promoting a drug-free, stay-in-school, no-gangs message.... But none of these efforts will be enough without our local partners continuing to work together.  The Department of Justice is committed to working with them in this fight, but they are the best ones to know the needs of this community and the best solutions for its unique problems.  I applaud their efforts so far, and I stand ready to do all I can to help.  Together, we can help ensure that the American dream is a real possibility for all Americans."

Mark R. Filip, Deputy Attorney General. Announcing Enhanced Efforts to Combat Gangs

Department of Justice banner  "....Your plan to partner with the Wake County Gang Prevention Partnership, the Wake County Public School System, and other institutions in the community will demonstrate the power of the faith-based community and like organizations to positively contribute to gang prevention measures in our community.  Consistent with OJJDP's Comprehensive Gang Model, your approach emphasizes community mobilization and multi-agency collaboration, and prioritizes the recruitment of faith community members and representatives from small community organizations.  This approach has the power to bring many resources to bear upon the problem of children and youth who become involved in gangs in our communities.  From my perspective as a member of the Executive Committee for the Wake/Durham Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative (CAGI) administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Initiative, I greatly appreciate and value the contribution that your efforts will make to anti-gang efforts in Wake County. I wish you success....and pledge the support of my office to your endeavors."

The North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

"....The need for programs like the Adopt-A-School Initiative, that have a positive effect on the whole child, is evident given the myriad of challenges that many young people face.  This program is consistent with the Department's efforts to have a comprehensive juvenile justice system that provides the most effective services to youth and their families.... The Adopt-A-School Initiative is nationally recognized as a program that promotes healthy school and home environments that maximize student success through intentional partnerships involving churches, schools and community organizations.  This Initiative also strives to support young people in graduating high school on time, remaining sexually abstinent until marriage and staying away from drugs and gangs. The Department recognizes the work that Another Step Forward is doing to ensure the success of North Carolina youth...."
